A Few Words About Paper Recovery and Recycling |
|
Waste paper is recovered from a wide variety of sources such as neighborhood and municipal recycling centers, grocery stores, waste haulers, newspapers, manufacturers, offices and even the paper mills themselves. Corrugated, newspaper, office paper, envelope cuttings, etc are sorted and separated, kept free of contaminants, baled per mill specifications and are shipped to the appropriate mill(s) for recycling. Once at the mill, this recovered paper is put through the recycling process and made into other paper products. Over 80% of all the paper recovered in America today is recycled into new products by our paper mills. Another 15% is exported to foreign recycling mills, most of which are located in Canada or the FAR EAST and the remaining paper is used for composting, animal bedding and insulation. As a consumer, you will find there is recycled content in almost every type of paper product. Some products are more easily made with recycled paper than others…so, you will find more recycled paper in a cereal box than you will in fine writing paper which is made with much more stringent content standards. Paper recovery and recycling is a vibrant, flourishing industry that keeps our environment cleaner by turning waste into reusable products. Our industry is working for a better, greener tomorrow and NAPW members are proud to be part of this exciting endeavor |
