The Syrcause Pulp and Paper Foundation awards the NAPW scholarships in the following manner. A scholarship committee made up of Paper Science and Engieering faculty members and Foundation staff selects the recipients in consultation with the director of financial aid. The selection is based on both academic performance and financial need, and candidates must be enrolled in Paper Science and Engineering for at least one year.

North Carolina State University encourages bright students with interest in chemistry and chemical engineering into the paper science field, a merit scholarship program that was established by the Pulp and Paper Foundation. To further support students enrolled in the program, the paper and allied industry provides summer intern and semester long CO-OP professional jobs. Combinations of summer intern and co-op experiences are possible.
