October was a very busy month for the NAPW and the NAPW Charitable Foundation…

 

North Carolina State University held their Annual Foundation Luncheon where they named our scholarship award recipient.  She is Alynesha Moses, a senior in the Paper Science Engineering program who really needed the financial help to complete her education.  Our scholarship bought her books for both semesters and 2 other scholarships will help her complete her degree and graduate in June 2004.  In attendance at the luncheon were Marita Daniels of Weyerhaeuser Recycling and George & Antoinette Jucha of Northstar Pulp & Paper. 

 

Syracuse University of New York also held their Annual Foundation Luncheon and Dinner and named Larissa Perlmutter as the recipient of our scholarship.  Linda Leone and Bob Carpenter of Solvay Paperboard took the time and attended both events with this bright young woman who is maintaining a 3.7 GPA.  Her interest in the paper industry was spurred on by an internship at Westvaco! 

 

YOU made it possible for us to help these bright young women complete their educations through your membership & donations!    THANKS FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!

Antoinette gave a speech at the PSI Annual Fall Conference in San Diego where she detailed the differences between our Scholarship Program and that of PSI.  She also went on to explain why it is necessary for industry professionals to belong and donate to BOTH organizations!  The PSI Fall Conference was well attended and offered a variety of issues that needed to be discussed.  Your participation at all these events is encouraged!

 

The beginning of November ushered in the Annual Planning Meeting for the NAPW & the FIRST EVER Annual Planning Meeting for the NAPW Charitable Foundation.  The meetings were productive and a more detailed report will follow in the December e-newsletter.  Just to give you a ‘heads up’… following is just some of what we will be doing in 2004:

 

       January 2, 2004 membership renewal notices go out. PLEASE RE-JOIN EARLY.  Your               

       membership is our lifeline!!!

 

       January 25, 2004 SCOTCH TASTING PARTY at the Marriott Chateau Champlain in

       Montreal, Canada prior to the CPPA meetings.  Featured speakers will be from Atlantic

       Packaging, Cascades, Kruger, and Huronia Transportation.  If you want to speak about

       your firm at this event, please contact Antoinette at 1-866- GET NAPW.

 

                   FANTASTIC FEBRUARY EVENT!!!  Join us at the Southeast Recycling

                   Conference on Sunday evening, February 15, 2004 where we will sponsor

                   a free one hour BBQ & BEER BASH at the Hilton in Pensacola, Florida

                   We will be raffling golf clubs, P. Buckley Moss special prints and just having

                   a real good old-fashioned party together!!!  You don’t want to miss this oneJ

 

                   MARVELOUS MARCH will see us at Paper Week in New York.  Our Annual 

                   Meeting will be from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the Marriott East Side and our GRAND

                   LUNCHEON will follow in the same hotel.  You will LOVE the menu and the

                   program!     Say Farewell to Antoinette…. see the Installation of the new Board of

                   Directors and enjoy our keynote speaker, Mr. Simon Davies of GP/Harmon!!!

                   

                   We will have a booth at the Recycling Today conference in Atlanta, GA in June.

 

                    Our Annual Scholarship Fundraising drive will take place in August.
