Chartable Donations Updates – NAPW – Charitable Foundation
The NAPW – Charitable Foundation has awarded over $18,000 in scholarships to students majoring in Pulp & Paper Science programs! We are continuing to support and educate our future work force of the paper recycling industry by our on-going fundraising. The funding for these scholarships comes directly from your contributions and support! We hope you will consider making a donation to our scholarship fund. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. Remember that if you or your company are US based, your donation is fully tax deductible under our 501©3 status.

We would like to thank the following that sent in donations in the month of June!
* Bev Timmins – personal donation
* The Newark Group – company donation
* Canusa Hershman Recycling – company donation

The NAPW – Charitable Foundation raised $1375 during Paper Recycling Conference & Trade Show in Chicago! We raised this amount simply by selling raffle tickets at our booth in the exhibit area of the Trade Show. This is an amazing amount and we thank all that contributed! So… what were the raffle items that were being given away? They were amazing items and we thank our generous sponsors for their donations of these items in helping us raise this astounding amount of money!
* Nike Golf Bag – donated by Weyerhaeuser
* Golf Putter – donated by Waste Management / Recycle America
* Duffle Bag with golf items – donated by Solvay Paperboard
* Winner of the above bundle of 3 prizes = Marty Rusk of Corrugated Services of Texas
* Golf Shirts – donated by Canusa Hershman
* Winners = Normand Handfield of Kruger, Inc. & Tim Vanatta of Recycled Fibers

We also asked the members that stopped by our booth to drop in their business card to win a $25 gift certificate to the Olive Garden. Diane Thifault of Kruger, Inc. was the lucky winner!

A special thanks goes out to member Bev Timmins of Weyerhaeuser for being the top sales person of raffle ticket! Every time we turned around Bev was making another sale. Thanks for your hard work Bev!

Golf Outing for the Paper Industry – Sponsor – NAPW Charitable Foundation

The New York Association of Dealers and the New Jersey Paper Recycling Association is holding a golf outing on August 10th at 1pm at the Westchester Hills Golf Club in White Planes, NY. They have been kind enough to allow the NAPW to participate in the event AND hold a fund raising event in the form of a 50/50 CASH raffle. We will be selling tickets at the registration table at this event. We are really excited about having another industry event to raise money for our Charitable Foundation and also provide our members and non-members a fun way to network!

Please let Linda Leone know if you are interested in attending the outing as soon as possible. The NAPW has committed to having at least one foursome attend and play in the outing. If you are not a golfer, but would like to spend the day networking there are day passes available to enjoy the club’s pool and tennis courts or to come for a wonderful dinner. Contact Linda for registration and prices at Linda.leone@solvaypaperboard.com

Fun Fact
The Power of Water
75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.
Lack of water is the #1 trigger for daytime fatigue.
Research indicates 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Let’s reach for the water and make sure you take your cell phone to the bathroom, because that’s where we are all going to be spending our day!
