NAPW Charitable FoundationTogether, we can make a difference!
Note from the President - Jennifer Smith - The NAPW would like to extend a “thank you” to the following companies and individuals that helped make our event a success and 2005 off to a great start. Kruger, Inc. and Solvay Paperboard each received awards during our luncheon for donating $500 or more in 2005 to our Charitable Foundation. With the continued support of companies like these, we continue to grow our ability to give back to the Pulp and Paper Science Schools in the US and Canada. Also receiving an award in NY was Bob Carpenter of Solvay Paperboard. Bob was presented with the Volunteer of the Year award for his tremendous help to our group year in and year out. He has helped us sell raffle tickets at industry events, attended scholarship awards ceremonies at SUNY and always is there with a smile on his face at any event we hold. Of course he did all of this and wasn’t even a member until just a few months ago! Thank you Bob for being such a wonderful asset to our group! Finally, I would like to thank Ken Grenier and Mike Davies of Paper Link International for donating the wine service at our luncheon. Ken and Mike are also new members – welcome! In keeping up with a recent tradition, we held a raffle in NY to raise money for our Charitable Foundation. We raised over $700! Thank you to all that contributed! Bill Larew of Caraustar Paper Sales won our 1st prize of a 50/50 split of the cash raised in the raffle. 2nd prize was a trio of Longaberger Baskets (donated by Jeff and Jennifer Smith), which were won by Diane Turzyn of Sprint Recycling. 3rd prize was an electronic organizer (donated by Marita Daniels), which was won by our speaker, Ethan Hershman. 4th prize was an adorable scented, wax bear (donated by Diane Lord) which was won by Helena Urban of City Shredding Corp. The winner of our “free” luncheon for 2006 in NY was Pam Edwards of Weyerhaeuser. Congratulations to all our winners! Thank you again to all who attended our annual event. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming industry and NAPW events. Please check our web site at www.napw.org for announcements of events. Volunteers Needed We are looking for volunteers to help work our booth at the Paper Recycling Conference and Trade Show in Atlanta, GA. The dates are June 27th and 28th. We do not have the booth hours as of yet. We would appreciate ½ to 1 hour of your time. Please contact jenniferj.smith@awin.com if you are interested. Entry passes for workers will be provided. If you did not receive a copy, or have changes to the emailed edition, please contact Linda.Leone@solvaypaperboard.com A final copy will be mailed to members mid-May. Business Link on NAPW Web Site We would be happy to include your company web site link on the NAPW site. Any interested companies, please notify jenniferj.smith@awin.com. Very Special Thank You The NAPW Charitable Foundation would like to thank our friends at Harmon Associates through the Georgia-Pacific Foundation for their recent donation to our Scholarship Fund. Our group and the schools we support thank you for your generous contribution in supporting the education of the future coming into the Pulp & Paper field. Congratulations!!! Congratulations to Kim Kiaunis of Canusa Hershman Recycling. She has been named the President of the Eastern Paper Mill Association. Kim is the 1st woman to hold this honored position for this association. Next Meeting on the West Coast? It has been suggested by our Members that we hold our next meeting, or hold an annual event, on the west coast versus the east coast. It was also suggested that we hold a stand-alone event not connected to an industry conference. Our initial date idea was mid-September. Here are some questions we would like answered from our Members: Would you prefer week day dates or weekend dates or a combination of the two. What are your thoughts or ideas of the type of event? What type of event would you be willing to attend? What type of speaker would you find beneficial? How much would you be willing to pay? Please send all comments and ideas to jenniferj.smith@awin.com. Helpful Hints: With the warm weather coming, here is a helpful hint: Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hair spray and they will take a quick dive. Happy Birthday Members!!! Diane Lord Helena Urban Regina Beaudry Bob Carpenter Kevin Duncombe |
